Administration

Patty Stringfellow,  Director of the Jasper County Public Libraries, has been a Jasper County resident since 1994.  She began working at JCPL in 1997 as satellite and volunteer coordinator.  In 1999 she became Headquarters Librarian for the Rensselaer Public Library, holding that position until assuming Directorship in January 2006.  Patty graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and from Indiana University with a Master's Degree in Library Science. 

Gail Jung has been on the Jasper County Library Staff since August 1992. As Business Manager, Gail works behind the scenes handling the day to day business operations of the library and assisting the director.  Her primary responsibilities include the bookkeeping, accounts payables and receivables, supply inventory/ordering, and general office duties. 

Susan Tobias joined the JCPL staff in 2006, as the Business Manager's Assistant.

2010 Board Members

Jody Melton - President.  Jody Melton has been Executive Director of the Kankakee River Basin Commission (KRBC) since 1982. He is a member of the Association of State Floodplain Managers and the Indiana Association of Floodplain and Stormwater Managers. He is also a member of the Northwest Indiana Quality of Life Council.  He has served as Chairman of the DeMotte Planning Commission since 1985. Jody and his wife, Maureen, have lived in DeMotte since 1975. They have 3 children and two grandchildren. He enjoys exercising, gardening and cooking, is an avid reader, and is a fan of KV sports. Jody was appointed by the presidents of the Kankakee Valley and West Central School Boards.  His term will expire Aug. 2, 2011.

Tim Schultz - Vice President.  Tim was appointed by the County Council.  He is the owner of Hillside Ace Hardware in DeMotte.  He is married and has one daughter.  His term expires June 30, 2012.

Sue Deardorff - Secretary.   Sue is a lifetime resident of Jasper County.  She lives near Tefft with her husband. They have three grown children. Sue has worked in the Kankakee Valley Middle School Media Center for the past 10 years. She was appointed by the Jasper County Commissioners. Her term will expire December 31, 2010.

Mari Anne Sayler - Treasurer. Mari Anne is a lifetime Rensselaer resident.  Mari Anne is married to R. Bruce Sayler, who is a Rensselaer building contractor.  They have 3 children: Sarah, Brad and Maggie.  She attended Purdue University.  Mari Anne presently works as a pre-school speech clinician for Cooperative School Services. Mari Anne was appointed by the Rensselaer Central School Board.  Her term expires May 9, 2010.

Natalie Waling - Asst. Treasurer. Natalie was appointed to the Library Board by the Jasper County Council in January 2006.  Natalie, a lifetime resident of Rensselaer, is a graduate of Saint Joseph's College and Purdue University.  She holds a master's degree in education with a reading minor. She has taught in the Rensselaer schools for the past twenty years, having taught Kindergarten and fifth grade, as well as Language Arts to students in grades six, seven and eight.  She is currently teaching seventh grade Language Arts at Rensselaer Middle School.  She has been married to Randy Waling for thirty years. Natalie is the mother of four daughters and the grandmother of three grandchildren. Her term will expire December 31, 2013.

Deana George  She has served on the Library Board since May 2009.  Deana was born and raised in Rensselaer.  After graduating from Rensselaer Central High School she attended Purdue University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education.  Deana has a master’s degree from Indiana University in library science.  She worked as a librarian media specialist for 8 yrs.  Currently, Deana works as an insurance agent with her husband, Estel.  They have two children and four grandchildren.  Deana enjoys spending time with family, reading, golfing and crafts.  She was appointed to the Board by the Rensselaer Central School Board.  Deana’s term will expire May 9, 2013. 

Janet Umlauf   Janet was appointed by the County Commissioners.  Her term will expire December 31, 2011.
