Surprise! August is National Sandwich Month! According to www.nationaldaycalendar.com, the Wheat Flour Institute established August as National Sandwich Month in 1952. I think August is an appropriate month for this celebration since kids will be heading back to school soon and packing lunches will once again become a daily chore.

Sandwiches have long been a staple in school lunch boxes. One of the reasons they have been found in school lunch boxes for decades is that they are a quick and easy main course to put in the boxes. Even the kids can make a sandwich.

What type of sandwich is the favorite with children ages 4-15? Did you guess Peanut Butter & Jelly? If so, kudos to you! You are correct. Just be sure you leave that banana off the sandwich because today’s kids haven’t even heard of Elvis and don’t think bananas belong on PB & J’s. So, leave it off – thank you, thank you very much.

What is the least favorite? Tuna Fish, yep, tuna fish. I must agree with the kiddos on this one. Who wants to open a lunch box and smell that tuna fish? Ugh. Leave the tuna fish sandwiches out of the lunch boxes and save it for a dinner option on a hot August day.

Now, these all-important sandwich preferences of kids were found on www.thedailymeal.com and you can click on that link to check out what other things kids prefer on their sandwiches and in their lunch boxes.
