Heritage Quest database getting new look and feel

Coming March 4, 2015, HeritageQuest Online, one of the two leading genealogy databases offered at the Jasper County Public Library, will be improved and enhanced with a much richer content set and a more powerful, intuitive interface.

Among the content changes coming in this upgrade:

College Goal Sunday 2015 coming to Saint Joseph's College

Saint Joseph's College will be one of 37 sites in Indiana this year to host College Goal Sunday, a program that helps college-bound Indiana students who qualify for undergraduate admission to a college or technical school in 2015, and their families, to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Patrons are looking for federal tax forms, and your local library can help, but you will probably have to get what you need this year from the world wide web.

The IRS Tax Forms Outlet Program has informed us many of the forms and booklets we have received in the past for patrons will not be shipped this year.

Remembering the DeMotte Fire of 1936

April 15, 1936, was a day that almost took DeMotte off the map. Most of the businesses were destroyed by a massive fire.

The fire originated from a trash fire behind a couple of the businesses on the west side of street about mid afternoon. The wind had picked up and quickly took those ashes and spread them catching the buildings on fire.
