Good reads @ JCPL

It is October 22, 2014; a very special day for those of us who type. You’ll SHOUT FOR JOY, JUMP FOR JOY, AND HAVE A JUBILEE when you discover that October 22 is solely devoted to INTERNATIONAL CAPS LOCK DAY!

Book on a Plate

Menu: A list of dishes available in a restaurant or any list of items or activities to choose from.

Football player reading and pointing at you!

Football: A team of men who run around on a rectangular field in all kinds of weather, chasing whoever is carrying an oval ball from one end to the other in hopes of dancing at the end of the game.

It all started with a light fixture. Simply changing a light fixture in my dining room led to a total renovation that has lasted since March; it is now August and we can safely use the phrase, “out with the old, in with the new,” because the work is now complete.

The late, great, Dr. Seuss is quoted as saying, “Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities.” In reading my most recent fiction selection, I began to wonder about the difference between truth and fiction.

Butter vs. margarine; there used to be a commercial with a woman dressed as Mother Nature, who, when challenged about the benefits of margarine vs. butter, coined the phrase, “You can’t fool Mother Nature!”

I wish I had a nickel for every time I start a sentence with the words, “I wish…” I wish it would only rain at night and that the sun would shine all day long…I wish the wind would stop blowing; it’s giving me a stretch of bad hair days like no other; I wish the pollen count were not so high (sniff, sniff).

It was a blast from the past. Scrolling through Facebook this morning, I came across a post that someone had shared that included a video of children who had been given a Walkman, and then asked what it was and how it worked. Remember the Walkman, the best invention to hit the streets in the 80’s?

Words are like fashion, they come and go and change with the times, and sometimes, they even become popular and important enough in our everyday language to be placed in the dictionary.

I’m not a bit superstitious. I like black cats and am not afraid to walk around, underneath or climb a ladder.

It’s February 6; let the games begin! In Sochi, we’re gearing up for competition in some slippery sports, such as figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating and ski jumping. These winter sports are designed for those who are highly skilled and trained to compete with one another and Mother Nature.

The grocery stores, once chock-full of bread and milk, now have shelves empty as the pockets of a bride’s father after the wedding. Why?

"Give me the abbreviated version.” Make it short; we do, after all, live in an abbreviated USA, don’t we? I vowed I’d never text and would never do the “LOL,” etc. thing.

Now, I’ve gotten so used to sending messages via text that when I write I have a hard time remembering to form complete words and sentences.

“I think it’s so groovy now, that people are finally getting together; I think it’s wonderful now, that people are finally getting together…” That song has been going through my head all morning; to the point that every once in awhile, I have to belt it out just to relieve the pressure.

Today’s technology allows us to perform lots of tasks with ease, more than I realized until a recent issue of Reader’s Digest listed some products that I never knew existed.
