2010 Jasper County Summer Reading Writing Contest

JASPER COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY HOLDS WRITING CONTEST FOR ALL AGES THIS SUMMER

Do you have a story to tell? This summer, the Jasper County Public Library is inviting all ages to tell their story with our Creative Writing Contest. Story submissions may be fiction, non-fiction, biography, essay, journal entry of any other prose piece, and may be entered throughout the summer months. Deadline for story entries is September 1 at 5:00 pm. Age categories and topics are as follows:

  • Beginner, grades 3-5, or ages 7-10. Story may be between 50 and 300 words or ½ to 1 full page in length. Topic for this age group is “Summertime.”
  • Intermediate, grades 6-8 or ages 11 -13. Story may be 300 to 700 words or 2-3 pages in length. Topic is “Make a Splash.”
  • Advanced, grades 9-12 or ages 14-17. Story may be 700-1000 words or 4-5 pages in length. Topic is “Make Waves.”
  • Adult, age 18 or older. Story may be 1,200 to 1,700 words or 5-7 pages in length. Topic is “Water the Mind.”

Stories must be PG-13 or under and be double spaced with a one inch margin, typed in a 12 point non-proportional font or handwritten in ink. Please include a title page with your entry that states: Title, Author, Date, Age, and Grade (if applicable).

Entries will be judged by library staff, and winners selected according to creativity and imagination, expression and ability. Writing mechanics, grammar, spelling, punctuation, neatness and presentation will also be considered.

So, express yourself this summer by telling your story and sharing it with us! Town & Country Paving of DeMotte is sponsoring $25 gift certificates as prizes for each age category, and all story entries will become property of JCPL upon submission.
