TRANSIENTS All Transients should be sent to the Jasper County Sheriff where they will (following a police check) be offered food, gasoline, or housing for one night provided by our Salvation Army Fund

RESIDENTS There are several agencies in Rensselaer that may be of help. However, their funding is limited.

Your Township Trustee: May be able to assist with rent, utilities and telephone bills.

Jasper County Community Services: Federal funding access that will help with utility bills on a very generously calculated sliding scale (219) 866-8071

Birthright: Offers Free Pregnancy Testing (216 ½ W Washington St. (219) 866-4555)

Crisis Center: If a woman is in an abusive situation, she may receive help. Men ARE NOT excluded, but are put in a local motel instead of the safe house. Some funds are set up to help victim into own apartment.  (219) 866-8825 OR 1-800-933-0374

Good Neighbor Food Pantry: Open Wednesdays 10 am – Noon (219)987-3025

Good Samaritan Food Pantry: Open Tuesdays 10 am – Noon and Thursday afternoons A five day supply of food is offered, but only ONCE a month. (219) 866-0037

Wheatfield Food Pantry: Open Wednesday’s 12-2 pm (219) 956-3534

Salvation Army: Rent, utility assistance and medical costs are offered. (limit of $50) No deposits will be paid. Clothing is offered if there are children in the family. Special fund for major problems such as a fire or house being destroyed. (Contact: Burr Oak Mennonite Church (219) 394-2339 for an appointment. NO WALK- INS)

Rensselaer Ministerial Association/Helping Hand Fund: An account set up by participating churches. Those who have a relationship with the Rensselaer Area (residents or those who work here or have a church home here) can be helped with utilities, food, medicine, telephone, rent and other special needs.
