Books For Bucks - DeMotte Teen Summer Reading

This summer at the DeMotte Library, reading will earn young adults the chance to win cash prizes! “Books for Bucks” is back, and kicks off with online registration the week of May 19.

Books for Bucks is open to teens entering grades 5-12, and all you have to do to participate is stop in the library, pick up a reading record sheet and read! This summer’s Books for Bucks theme is “Spark a Reaction.”

Weekly cash prizes will be awarded, as well as special coupons to area businesses. Coupons must not exceed a total of five per participant. Items read for the program may include books, magazines, or newspapers, must be checked out from the DeMotte Library, and be age appropriate. Registration for this program begins May 19 and will continue until Monday, June 2 when reading booklets will be available for teens to pick up.

A variety of weekly programs will also be offered each Thursday at 2 pm, beginning on June 12, and include craft day, game day, Vermicomposting and movies. Programs are free and open to all Books for Bucks participants.

Books For Bucks - Wheatfield Teen Summer Reading

Teens, this summer, reading can earn you cash! Starting on June 2, teens who have completed grades 4-11 are invited to register for the Wheatfield Library’s Books for Bucks Summer Reading Program, where this year’s theme is “Spark a Reaction,” and every minute counts!

To join, just stop in and pick up a reading record sheet, check out books, and read, read, read, because for each 20 minutes read, you earn an entry into a weekly drawing for cash prizes, and 80 minutes of reading earns you a coupon to a local business.

Coupons are limited to 4 per person. After receiving 4 coupons, participants may then enter their name in a drawing for a $50 Visa Gift Card.

In addition, weekly programs will be held each Thursday from 2-3 pm, and registration is required to attend these programs. Registration is available on the library’s website at or by visiting or calling the Wheatfield Library at 956-3774.

Rensselaer Teen Summer Reading

Teens in grades 6-12 are invited to participate in the library’s “Spark a Reaction” Summer Reading Event, where weekly programs that are appropriate for this age group will be held on Tuesdays @ 2 pm.

Sign-ups for Spark a Reaction begin June 2.  Attend fun programs while reading books throughout the program that will earn them the chance to win prizes.

The kickoff for teens participating in this year’s Summer Reading Program will be held on Tuesday, June 10th @ 3 pm, and will include a series of relay activities with lots of color thrown in, so dress to be a mess!

If you haven’t had the chance to sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Program, this is a great chance to do so!

Share your library love and get an extra chance for summer reading prizes

Love your library? Share it with your friends online and earn an extra chance for prizes

This summer, if you share a positive message about your library on social media, you will receive an extra entry into the prize drawing for your library’s summer reading program.

All you need to do is post about us on twitter, facebook, tumblr, pinterest, instagram, vine or any other social media, and include the hashtag #myjcpl -- then show your message to the front desk at your local library.

This contest is open to teens and adults, and good for one slip per patron.

Get creative and win prizes

The Rensselaer Library is doing a special ‘Spark a Reaction’ art contest for teens this summer. This is only open to teens signed up for summer reading.

Grand prize will be a cool, funky art set. There will also be prizes for runner-up and 3rd place.

Spark a Reaction at the Library Art Submission Guidelines

  • The artwork must somehow communicate the Summer Library Program theme of “Spark a Reaction.”
  • Artwork must be submitted in hard copy, 8"x10" size and matted or framed to 11"x14".
  • Artwork can be any medium the artist chooses.
  • You can enter up to five pieces of art.
  • On the back of each submission, print your name, email address, phone number, age and mailing address.
  • Entries must be the newly created original work of entrant, must not infringe upon third party rights and cannot violate any copyright laws or existing trademarks.
  • The design cannot have unintelligible wording, obscene or offensive language or imagery.
  • Open only to teenagers participating in the “Spark a Reaction” library program.
  • Artwork will be returned and must be picked up within one week after the end of the art show.

Bring your digital camera (or use ours) and create a photo of yourself that you can drop into various backgrounds of your choice. If you use your own camera, you must bring your cable so your photo can be copied to a standard PC laptop via a USB cable.
