Books For Bucks - DeMotte Teen Summer Reading

This summer at the DeMotte Library, reading will earn young adults the chance to win prizes! This summer’s theme for the DeMotte Library’s Teen Reading Program is ‘Unmask,’ and kicks off with online registration the week of May 18.

‘Unmask’ is open to teens entering grades 5-12, and all you have to do to participate is stop in the library, pick up a reading record sheet and read!

Reading record sheets will be available to pick up beginning June 1 and weekly programs will be held for this age group each Thursday at 2 pm as well throughout the months of June and July.

Some programs planned for this age group include ‘Cosplay,’ ‘Twist and Smile Balloon Instructional,’ ‘Lifesize Clue’ and more!

Weekly prizes will be awarded, as well as special coupons to area businesses. Coupons must not exceed a total of five per participant. Items read for the program may include books, magazines, or newspapers, must be checked out from the DeMotte Library, and be age appropriate.

Books For Bucks - Wheatfield Teen Summer Reading

Teens, this summer, reading can earn you cash! Starting on June 1, teens who have completed grades 4-11 are invited to register for the Wheatfield Library’s Books for Bucks Summer Reading Program, where this year’s theme is “Unmask,” and every minute counts!

To join, just stop in and pick up a reading record sheet, check out books, and read, read, read, because for each 20 minutes read, you earn an entry into a weekly drawing for cash prizes, and 80 minutes of reading earns you a coupon to a local business.

Coupons are limited to 4 per person. After receiving 4 coupons, participants may then enter their name in a drawing for a $50 Visa Gift Card.

In addition, weekly programs will be held each Thursday from 2-3 pm, and registration is required to attend these programs. Registration is available online or by visiting or calling the Wheatfield Library.

Rensselaer Teen Summer Reading

Teens in grades 6-12 are also eligible to participate in the library’s “Unmask” Summer Reading Event, and weekly programs that are appropriate for this age group will be held on Tuesdays @ 2 pm. Sign-ups for Unmask begin May 26.

The kickoff for teens participating in this year’s Summer Reading Program will be held on Wednesday, June 3 with an Ice Cream Social @ 3 pm.

Weekly programs will then begin on June 9 @ 2 pm with ‘Tie Dye’ and continue each week with ‘Super Game Day,’ ‘Super Hero Party’ ‘Real Heroes,’ and more!

If you haven’t had the chance to sign up for this year’s Summer Reading Program, this is a great chance to do so!

Summer Selfies

Love your library? Share it and earn an extra chance for summer reading prizes!

This summer, library patrons can take a photo of themselves with their JCPL library card, a JCPL book or item, or an ebook from JCPL’s OverDrive account and send it to the library for another entry in the prize drawing for your library’s summer reading program.

Email your selfie with your name, age and library branch, or use our handy online form to upload your photo, or bring a print to your local library. Include your name, age and home library location and a phone number or email address to contact you if you win.

This contest is open to age 13 to adult, and good for one slip per patron.

Please be aware there is a library policy regarding photography and video on library property, and your photos or videos must honor that policy.

Teens Tie Dyeing

Tuesday, June 9 at 2 p.m. Teens in grades 5th thru 12th are welcome to join us for our summer reading program Tie Dyeing. Bring in different items to dye socks, t-shirts or headbands. You can even try making a tie dye Captain America shirt with your t-shirt.

Teen Super Game Day

Teen Super Hero Party

Teens in grades 5th thru 12th are welcome to join us for a super hero party.  Come dressed as your favorite super hero.

We will have fun activities planned and vote for your favorite costume.

Teen Real Heroes

Teens in grades 5th thru 12th are welcome to join us for Real Heroes.  Come and explore the different Heroes in your community and learn about what it takes to do there job to help keep the community safe.  Program will last about an hour.  Register online or call 866-5881.

Meet Local Heroes

You are invited to come meet some of our local hereos.  We will have special guests from the Rensselaer Police, Fire and Ambulance.  They will also be bringing their police cars, firetrucks and ambulance for us to get up close and look at.
