November has many days that we all celebrate and take part in, November 15 should be one added to that list.  America Recycles Day is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products.

America Recycles Day was started by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997 and since 2009, is now an initiative of Keep America Beautiful.

Recycling can really make a difference in the environment. Recycling is a process to create new items from old and used materials.  This helps in reducing energy and useful materials from being wasted.

Aluminum cans are probably the most recycled item but there are many other products that can be recycled like paper, bottles and magazines. If recycled, these items can help to conserve energy, save trees, and result in less greenhouse gases being emitted into the atmosphere.  That is a Win-Win for us and our environment!

Learn about recycling in Jasper County at the Northwest Indiana Solid Waste District website. Talk to your kids about how important recycling is to the world now and also for the future.  Take the #BeRecycled pledge to learn, act and share information about keeping America beautiful: Reduce – Reuse – Recycle!
