History buffs, students and the whole community are invited to the Rensselaer Library in January to honor one of the nation's best-loved presidents, Abraham Lincoln. Two special one-of-a-kind programs will pay tribute to the 16th President between Jan. 17-21.

Bring the whole family and join us at the Rensselaer Library on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m., for our Abraham Lincoln presenter, Danny Russel.

Hilarity and heartbreak abound as our most famous Hoosier, Abraham Lincoln, traces his amazing journey from a log cabin to the White House in this compelling performance. From this striking figure in his customary black suit and ever-present stovepipe hat, you’ll learn about his Indiana youth, and his nomination for presidency.

In addition to being a lifetime member of the National Association of Lincoln Presenters, Mr. Russel is a four-time grant recipient honored by the Indiana Arts Commission.

Registration for this free program is available online at www.myjcpl.org/events or by visiting or calling the Rensselaer Library at (219) 866-5881. Limited spots are available, so sign up today!

In conjunction with this anticipated program is a living history display made possible through generous support of the Daughters of the American Revolution General Van Rensselaer Chapter and Jackson Funeral Chapels.

The Rensselaer Library will have on display an authentic replica of the coffin in which Lincoln was buried beginning Thursday, Jan 17, through Monday, Jan 21, 2019.

On loan from Batesville Casket Company of Batesville, Indiana, the replica was constructed for use at funeral home open houses and historical events such as Civil War reenactments. Batesville did not construct the original coffin but used original plans to build the replica.

“This living history display is a great tool for schools, historical groups or interested individuals,” says Julie Hesson, a Funeral Director at Jackson Funeral Chapels and a DAR member.
