Teen Tech Week - Libraries are for Making

Each March the library celebrates our teen patrons and technology with a special week of events in conjunction with YALSA, the YA branch of the American Library Association.

Stop by the library this month and check out the special events for Teen Tech Week, March 8-14.  Each library will be offering something and this year’s theme is Libraries are for Making…..

DeMotte Library is celebrating it with a Silly Selfies contest—teens in grades 6-12 are encouraged to submit a silly selfie.  Winners will be announced March 16th.

Wheatfield Library is celebrating it with a Trivia Crack program on Tuesday, March 10th from 6-7pm, teens in grades 6-12—how well do you know your trivia?—refreshments will be served.  Registration is required.

Wheatfield Library is also inviting teens in grades 6-12 to celebrate Teen Tech Week by entering the Wheatfield Library’s Instagram photo contest! Just post a unique picture of yourself and your favorite book and post any time between March 1 and March 14, hashtag #TTW2015.

Rensselaer Library is celebrating the week by having a Photo Editing contest—teens in grades 6-12 are invited to edit a photo to make it look surreal or unbelievable.  All entries will be posted in the Teen Room, winners will be announced on March 16th.

Rensselaer Library will also celebrate by inviting teens in grades 6-12 to create a Flip Book on March 9th from 4-5pm—all materials will be provided, and registration is required.

Teens are also invited to attend the Overdrive e-book class on Wednesday, March 11th at 6pm—learn how to download books to your device.

Other programs for teens during the month of March include:

Celebrate the Pi Day of the century at the Rensselaer Library on March 14 at 9:26 am with mini pies and pi crafts.

Rensselaer Library invites teens in grades 6-12 for the next “Chat & Chew” book discussion.  Check out the book The Green Teen Cookbook and come to our discussion where we will review and create some of the recipes in this book, registration is required for this March 17th program from 4-5pm.

DeMotte Library invites teens to our monthly Gamer’s Club on Monday, March 16th from 6-10pm where we will be playing a variety of board games.

Wheatfield Library invites teens in grades 9-12 to attend our next Teen Book Club where we will read and discuss the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.  It will take place Thursday, March 19th from 4-5pm, refreshments will be served.  Copies of the book are available at the front desk of the Wheatfield Library.

Also, on March 14 all three libraries will be hosting Iditarod musher Karen Land. She will be speaking about her time competing in the legendary dog sled race at Rensselaer Library at 10 am, Wheatfield at 1pm and DeMotte at 3pm.
