How can you help with Human Trafficking?

January 11th is Human Trafficking Awareness Day. It’s sad but true: here in this country, here in this state, people are being bought, sold, and smuggled like modern-day slaves.

They are trapped in lives of misery—often beaten, starved, and forced to work as prostitutes or to take grueling jobs as migrant, domestic, restaurant, or factory workers with little or no pay.

I am a huge fan of the internet.  I love to “Google” that.  Facebook and I have an almost daily tryst.  Pintrest is the place to “be” and “do.”  However, I haven’t lost my first love of printed material.

Operation 'New Adult Fiction' is Underway @ JCPL!

Learning new things is daunting; following directions is not my strong-suit. Discovering, however, that You-Tube contains so many useful tutorials, mostly made by real people, I have come to depend on this quick, concise video format to learn how to complete a variety of tasks.

Did you ever wonder how your great-grandparents, grandparents and parents learned to read and write when they were young?

In the 1800s, one-room schools dotted Jasper County.  The schools were built by neighborhoods, and the teachers who taught in the schools were often boarded by area families.

One morning as I ventured into the home of my daughter and four grandchildren, I was greeted by one of their two cats. Asking my nine year old granddaughter where Sugar had been that morning, she replied, “Oh, she was probably out hunting mice, you know, getting as many as she can before hunting season is over.”
